Here are the 7 most dangerous misconfigurations we see in production OpenClaw environments, and how to detect them before they are exploited.

The Danger Checklist

1. Global shell access (The "Root" Trap)

Giving an agent unrestricted exec access to the host machine. If an agent can run sudo or access /etc/, it is a liability, not an asset.

2. Prompt-Only Guardrails

Relying on "system prompts" to enforce security (e.g., "Don't access private files"). Prompt injection can bypass these in seconds. Use infrastructure policies instead.

3. Hardcoded AGENT_SECRET in Dockerfiles

Secrets should always be injected via environment variables or secret managers. Checking a secret into a container image is an invitation to attackers.

4. No Per-Agent Token Throttling

Running agents without a "Hard Token Limit" per session. A reasoning loop on a Friday night could cost you your entire cloud budget by Monday morning.

5. Orphaned "Zombie" Agents

Agents that lose their connection to the control plane but continue to run local processes. These "zombies" consume resources and potentially sensitive data without any oversight.

6. Unauthenticated Telemetry Streams

Streaming agent thoughts over plaintext HTTP. If your telemetry isn't E2E encrypted (AES-256-GCM), your prompt logic and tool outputs are visible to anyone on the network.

7. Over-Privileged Toolkits

Attaching a "Master Toolkit" to every agent regardless of its task. If a research agent has the "Database Delete" tool attached "just in case," you are one hallucination away from a disaster.
